Fire night at Razzmatazz: a Latin set diary
From old-school reggaeton to deep afrohouse. Recap of the latest session at Barcelona's legendary club.
Some nights just flow. Walking down the Razz stairs, seeing the booth already lit up and feeling the crowd ready to dance before the first beat — those are the nights you remember weeks later.
The opening
I started warm. A disco classic that still works at 2 AM better than most 2026 tracks. There’s no better invitation than a beat the crowd recognizes in the first bar.
The Razz booth has something special: the monitor hits right, you see the floor head-on, and you feel the crowd’s response on your face before hearing it.
From urban to afro
I built it up with old-school reggaeton, a couple of my own edits, and when I noticed the room asking for more density, I dropped afrohouse. That mix of Latin rhythm and electronic layers is pure gold: moves the dancer, surprises the listener.
“The floor tells you what’s next. You just have to listen.”
Three takeaways
- Read before you play: the first 15 minutes define the set.
- Don’t force the build: a forced BPM kills the bond.
- Memorable open, memorable close: they forgive the middle, never the edges.
Highlights
- Opening: reimagined disco classic, own edit
- Peak 1: old-school reggaeton with afro drop
- Peak 2: afrohouse + Latin vocal
- Closer: bolero-house. Yes, it exists. And it works.
Thanks Barcelona. See you soon — and if Razz lets us, booth again.
